If you are struggling with contractor lead generation and feel like you are relying on referrals and just hoping the phone rings, you are not alone.
This is one of the most common challenges contractors face.
And most of the time, it’s not because you’re not working hard it’s because the right systems aren’t in place.
One of the biggest systems we were missing was our Google Business Profile.
This is something I recently discussed on our podcast, where I break it down step by step and share exactly what has worked in our contracting business.
For a long time, we were in the same position, trying to figure out how to get consistent work without constantly chasing the next job. We weren’t running ads, and honestly, we still don’t rely on them today.
We were just trying to understand one simple question:
How do contractors actually get found?
And the answer is simple;
They go to Google.
Why Contractor Lead Generation Starts with Google
When someone is searching for a contractor, they are not going to social media first.
They are going to Google.
Even with AI tools like ChatGPT, the information still relies on existing online sources. You are losing out on opportunities every day if your business is not present.
This is one of the biggest gaps I see with contractors.
They want more leads.
They want marketing that works.
But when I ask whether their Google Business Profile is fully set up, it’s not most of the time.
Or it’s incomplete.
And that is one of the biggest missed opportunities in contractor lead generation.
What Changed for Us
Once we started focusing on building systems rather than guessing, everything began to shift.
Today, about 30% of our leads come from online, and we are not running ads.
That didn’t happen overnight.
It came from putting the right systems in place and staying consistent with them.
Step 1: Set Up Your Google Business Profile
This is the foundation of contractor lead generation.
Go to Google and search for “Google Business Profile” and set up your account.
Make sure:
- Your business name matches everywhere
- Your phone number is consistent
- Your website is accurate
Google is looking for consistency. That’s how it determines if your business can be trusted.
Step 2: Verify It the Right Way
If you don’t have a physical location, that’s okay.
But do not try to force one.
Instead:
- Hide your address
- Set your service areas
- Complete the verification process correctly
Google has become very strict, and incorrect information can reduce your online visibility.
Step 3: Keep Everything Consistent
Your business information needs to match across:
- Your website
- Social media
- Online directories
We even used tools like SEMrush to help clean this up because consistency plays a major role in building trust with Google.
Step 4: Start Posting and Adding Photos
This is where most contractors stop.
But this is where your Google Business Profile actually starts working for you.
Post:
- Job site photos
- Team updates
- Completed projects
- Company updates
And make sure to include your service areas, such as Las Vegas, Henderson, or Summerlin, so you can show up in local searches.
Step 5: Ask for Reviews Consistently
Not once. Not randomly.
Consistently.
Reviews are one of the biggest drivers of contractor lead generation.
Even getting a few reviews each week builds momentum over time and helps establish trust with potential clients.
This Is a System, Not a Quick Fix
This is not something that will blow up overnight.
But if you stay consistent, you will outperform most contractors, since most are not.
Most people set it up once and never touch it again.
That’s why they don’t see results.
This approach is how you build predictable, steady work in your business.
